Responsibilities

Work with pairs of students (fourth through eighth grade) who need extra support with
math during the school day. Tutors are trained to use a variety of scripted Minnesota
Math Corps strategies, called interventions, to build students’ foundational math
skills in numbers and operations. Tutors work with the same student pairs for a total
of 90 minutes each week.
Conduct quick and easy math assessments regularly, and enter the student data into an
online data system. Tutors review student data with their internal coach (site-based
math specialist) to monitor the progress of each student and modify their
intervention strategy to
meet each student’s needs.
Maintain confidentiality of all student data.
Attend three days of mandatory training prior to service with students and additional
required training sessions throughout the year. Tutors receive the consistent support
of a coach at their school. Some travel may be necessary to attend training.
Participate in school-sponsored activities such as book fairs and family nights.
All positions require availability, every day, Monday- Friday during regular school
hours.
While the majority of service hours are completed onsite during school hours, most
tutors engage in additional community service, which may take place during evening
and weekend hours.
